Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Therapy

Are you thinking of trying EFT to overcome your fear and to feel relaxed, confident and in control?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an evidence-based therapy that is scientifically proven to treat different types of anxiety effectively.

How can EFT help treat Anxiety?

EFT is a psychotherapeutic intervention that draws on various treatment approaches to help you overcome negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and develop positive mental health.  These include cognitive restructuring, behaviour and exposure therapy, acupuncture, and talk therapy.

How does EFT work?

EFT incorporates many different techniques (over 30), that can help you to transform negative thinking patterns, improve mood, as well as daily functioning.  All of these techniques are not necessarily applied in every session as this is dependent upon factors such as the nature of the problem, its severity, as well as impediments to healing.  However, the following are some of the key basic elements that are used in most cases:

  1. Health assessment, including details of the presenting problem.
  2. Identifying specific aspects regarding the problem, including negative cognitions, emotions, sensations, and body locations.
  3. Assessing the significant units of distress (SUDs); that is, rating how much distress is experienced because of the problem.
  4. The set up or psychological reversal.  This involves acknowledging the negative thoughts, feelings or sensations, and then stating a neutral cognitive reframe, all whilst tapping on the side of the hand.
  5. Focussing on the problem identified, and tapping using fingers on various acupuncture points; these are mostly situated on the face and upper body.
  6. The Gamut procedure.  This involves tapping acupuncture points on the hand, and eye movements.
  7. Reassessing SUDs, and repeating the process until the difficulty identified is resolved or significantly reduced.

The aforementioned steps are the core basic elements of EFT, however some additional techniques that may be applied include: psychological processing and tapping, identifying and transforming beliefs and emotions that can sabotage healing; identifying and installing positive beliefs; visualisation; breathing techniques; the movie technique; the tearless trauma technique; tell the story technique; chasing the pain, and the floor to ceiling eye role.

What are the different types of conditions EFT can treat?

EFT is an evidence-based therapy that is proven to treat many difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety
  • PTSD & Trauma
  • Chronic stress
  • Chronic Pain
  • Depression

EFT has also been successfully applied to heal grief, addictions, physical health problems, enhance mental wellbeing, and increase professional and sports performance.

Is EFT online therapy  just as effective?

Yes.  EFT is as effective online as in-person therapy.

Can EFT therapy be harmful?

EFT therapy is a safe therapy, with no known reports of any risks or side effects.

Can I do EFT on my own?

Yes.  One of the great things about EFT is that it can be taught as a self-care strategy that you can apply as and when required to reduce any mental or emotional distress. However, in the case of chronic severe conditions it is best to work with a therapist first because they will offer strong support in an accepting and safe environment to help you overcome any challenges.

Take the Next Step to transform your mental health and wellbeing.

Chronic anxiety can severely disrupt a persons quality of life, causing unhappiness, disability and illness.  However, it is possible to heal from anxiety.

With EFT therapy, you can achieve lasting clarity, sustainable peace, and a future with less emotional baggage.
