Is anxiety causing you chronic distress and interfering with your ability to manage daily activities?

  • Do you experience persistent fear and chronic worry that effects your ability to do things?
  • Are you chronically restless, irritated and tense?
  • Do you struggle to sleep because you can’t stop worrying?
  • Do you isolate yourself and feel disconnected from others?
  • Do you fear being overlooked, rejected or embarrassed?
  • Would you like to free yourself from chronic distress and thrive?
If you are chronically worried and it's impairing your ability to function in daily life, then you may want to consider getting therapeutic support to help you improve your mental wellbeing.

Anxiety Is Common

Anxiety is highly prevalent around the world.  Prior to COVID-19, the WHO reported that over 250 million people experienced mental distress internationally.  Here in the UK, 1 person in 4 is reported to develop an anxiety related difficulty each year.  Latest data suggests that there’s been a significant increase in mental health problems since the start of the pandemic.  Moreover, studies suggest that not only is anxiety highly prevalent, it is also highly under-reported. That means far more people suffer from anxiety than is reported, and far fewer get the support they need.  The reasons for this vary, however it can be due to factors such as societal stigma and misrepresentations of mental health problems, low perceived need or inadequate services.

Your Mental Health Matters

Unresolved, anxiety can severely impact psychological, physical and social wellbeing.  Without proper treatment, it can also lead to further mental health difficulties, serious physical health conditions, as well as disability. However, the good news is that with the right treatment, studies suggest that successful recovery is possible.  I’ve had the privilege of working with patients that not only fully recover after treatment, they are more stronger and resilient than prior to the difficulty starting.

With compassionate support and the application of effective treatments, you can be free from anxiety, feel happy and effectively manage daily tasks with ease.

Working together, we will identify your goals for therapy and create an individually tailored therapy plan.  I will offer you expert advice and guidance, and a range of therapy techniques you can choose from to help you quickly and effectively heal from anxiety, so that you can live a happy and fulfilling life again.

Getting mental health support can be a difficult decision to make for many people.  It may be that you’ve worked with many therapists already and found that the treatment didn’t work, and now wonder whether yet another therapist may be able to help you with the challenges you face.  For this reason, I offer a guranteed service. This means that if you experience no improvement after 6 sessions, you can get a full refund.  This is to ensure that you get the support you need with peace of mind.

What Is Anxiety?

Anxiety is characterised by chronic thoughts and feelings of worry, fear, irritability, inability to relax, and tension.

Anxiety Symptoms: What Are The Symptoms of Anxiety?

Mentally, it can exacerbate obsessive thinking, impair concentration, memory, and decision making, which in turn may affect daily activities such as work or study.  You may start to feel overwhelmed, finding it difficult to cope.  Sleeping may become a struggle, with chronic pain, palpitations, high blood pressure, digestive problems manifesting and weight loss or gain. Physical symptoms may also include dizziness, fatigue, nausea, excessive sweating, and dry mouth.  To cope with chronic fear, you may start to engage in unhealthy coping strategies such as excessive alcohol, fast food, or drugs.

In addition to mental distress, anxiety can have a detrimental effect on daily activities such as: withdrawal or avoidance of situations and places, impaired work, education and relationships, as well as substantial negative effects on home management and leisure activities.

Over time, chronic anxiety significantly increases the risk of serious illness such as major depression, heart disease, eating disorders, skin problems, gastrointestinal problems.  It can also increase the risk of premature death.

What Are The Different Types Of Anxiety?

There are different types of anxiety.  For instance, Generalised Anxiety is continuous and can occur in any situation.  Panic Disorder can be quite unexpected  with thoughts and feelings of extreme fear and panic.  Obsessive Compulsive Anxiety tends to be experienced as irrational thoughts, fears and obsessions that lead to repetitive behaviour, such as constant hand washing or checking.  Social Anxiety occurs in the context of daily interactions that can lead to worry, fear, self-consciousness and embarrassment, whilst Health Anxiety is excessive worry or fear about getting ill.  Phobias can occur in specific situations that a person feels unable to escape from, such as flying or spiders. Whilst Separation Anxiety is chronic and excessive worry or fear of separating from a major attachment figure.  Following is a more specific list of the signs and symptoms of different types of anxiety disorders:

Medicine research finds that it’s quite common for people to experience multiple anxiety disorders.  For example, GAD may occur alongside panic disorder and depression.

The following video also provides a summary of the nature of specific types of anxiety; evidence-based techniques to treat it, as well suggestions on self-care strategies.

Anxiety Treatment: How Do You Treat Anxiety?

We will start with identifying the challenges you are experiencing and what you hope to achieve from therapy sessions.  Next, we will create a treatment plan, specifically tailored to your needs.  This may involve applying a combination of  therapeutic techniques, at different stages, to help you overcome chronic negative thoughts, emotions and behaviours, and improve your mental wellbeing. You can choose to apply one or more of the following techniques:

These therapy techniques are not only beneficial for healing persistent anxiety, they also help to promote diverse aspects of general wellbeing such as happiness and life satisfaction; developing a sense of meaning and purpose to life; personal growth; increasing autonomy; developing self-acceptance, and promoting positive relationships.

Studies show that building mental wellbeing may protect against developing physical illness, serious mental health disorders, as well as premature mortality.   Moreover, a lack of physical activity, eating junk foods, poor sleep,  work overload, smoking, and excessive caffeine or alcohol can deplete us of vital energy, significantly increasing the risk of chronic stress, anxiety, dis-ease, and not adequately healing from illness.

Therefore, sessions are focused on healing anxiety, building mental wellbeing and supporting lifestyle changes to prevent chronic distress and illness.

Anxiety Therapist Birmingham: Where Does Anxiety Treatment Take Place?

You can choose to have therapy sessions online or in-person.

I am based in Birmingham, UK, with a home clinic in Yardley.  I also carry out home visits for persons who cannot travel to the office.

Online therapy sessions are via Zoom, or Skype, and can take place wherever you are in the world, at a time that suits you.  They are similar to face to face sessions, except they take place via video call.

For more information about online sessions you can visit this page: online anxiety therapy

If you have any further questions about the service, you can contact me via the following page here.

What Is The Process Of Anxiety Treatment

I offer an initial free consultation so we can discuss the difficulty you are experiencing including any questions you may have about the service regarding costs, length of sessions, treatments, as well as to enable you to determine whether I am the right person for treating your particular health difficulty.

If you decide to proceed with treatment, the next stage involves conducting a more detailed health and wellbeing assessment.  This includes asking further questions about the specific difficulty you’re experiencing, how long you’ve experienced anxiety, how it affects you, treatment history, and identifying your therapy goals.

Following this assessment, I will devise  a treatment plan that describes what we can cover in the session, and the techniques used to address the problem.  If you are happy with the suggested treatment plan then we can commence treatment sessions.

Depending on the severity and nature of the problem, sessions usually take place weekly; each session lasts for 60 to 90 minutes.

Following an initial free assessment, sessions are offered individually, or as packages of 6 or 12 sessions, depending on the nature and severity of the problem.

What Is The Cost Of Anxiety Therapy

Following an initial free consultation, you can choose to pay per session or book a session package.  The cost of one session is £100.  A 6 session package is £540, and a 12 session package costs £960.
